Westra Materials, a Swedish deep tech company pioneering next-generation conductive polymers for batteries and capacitors, has been awarded €6.5 million in blended funding from the European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator under the Horizon Europe programme.
The highly competitive funding package includes a €2.5 million grant and €4 million in equity financing to accelerate the industrial scale-up and commercialization of Westra’s breakthrough conductive polymer platform.
The awarded project, ODIN – Organic Durable INnovations for batteries and electronics – focuses on replacing environmentally harmful and performance-limiting materials such as PFAS materials like PVDF binders. Westra Materials’ proprietary technology introduces the first scalable conductive binder that combines binding and conductivity in a single material, eliminating the need for separate conductive additives in lithium-ion batteries while simultaneously unlocking high-efficiency capacitors.
The EIC support will enable the company to scale production capacity, accelerate qualification with leading battery and electronic manufacturers, and position itself as a Tier-2 material supplier across Europe’s fast-growing energy storage ecosystem.
“We are deeply honored to receive the EIC Accelerator’s support. This funding validates the disruptive potential of our conductive polymer platform and enables us to accelerate industrial scale-up at a critical moment for Europe’s battery and electronics industries. With this project, we are building the foundation for a cleaner, more competitive European energy storage value chain.”
- Daniel Westling, CEO of Westra Materials
