Ligna Energy awarded SEK 8M under the “Scaling Up for a Sustainable Battery Value Chain” programme
GAEU Consulting supports Vinnova-funded sodium-ion battery project led by Ligna Energy
GAEU Consulting is pleased to announce that we have supported the successful Vinnova funding of a development project led by Ligna Energy, aimed at creating the world’s first ultrathin sodium-ion battery for wireless electronics.

The project brings together a strong Swedish value chain covering advanced battery chemistry, scalable manufacturing and real-world system integration. Built on Altris AB’ industrialised sodium-ion technology and Ligna Energy’s roll-to-roll production platform, the initiative targets rapid scale-up and industrialisation ahead of commercial deployment. Project Partners Jemac Sweden AB and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden further strengthen the pathway from cell development to product integration and verification.
GAEU Consulting supported the consortium throughout the strategic shaping and development of the Vinnova grant proposal, including project positioning, value-chain articulation, impact logic and alignment with Sweden’s and Europe’s priorities on sustainable battery technologies and industrial resilience.
“This project is a strong example of how mature technology, industrial readiness and a clear market application can be combined into a compelling innovation case. We are proud to have supported Ligna Energy and the project Partners in structuring and communicating that vision to Vinnova,” says Tomasz Wąsik, MBA
The awarded funding confirms the strategic importance of sodium-ion technology as a sustainable alternative to lithium-based batteries and underlines Sweden’s role in building competitive, European energy-storage value chains for connected electronics.
We congratulate Ligna Energy and its partners on this important milestone and wish the consortium every success in delivering the project and bringing this new battery technology to market.
