Linnovation receives SEK 2.58M in funding from the Swedish Energy Agency
Linnovation receives SEK 2.58 million in funding from the Swedish Energy Agency to advance modular heating technology for hydropower.
Linnovation AB has been awarded SEK 2,579,300 in grant funding from the Swedish Energy Agency within the call “VER 2025:1 – Verification of innovations with a customer.” The project, titled “Modulära värmepaneler för vattenkraft” (“Modular Heating Panels for Hydropower”), will demonstrate a new class of intelligent, energy-efficient anti-icing systems for cold-climate energy infrastructure.
Through a 24-month collaboration with Sydkraft Hydropower / Uniper, Linnovation will develop and validate a modular, SCADA-integrated heating system that enables reliable winter operation of hydropower assets under extreme conditions. The system’s ultra-thin heating panels feature embedded copper mesh that serves both as a heat source and a real-time temperature sensor, enabling adaptive power control and achieving energy use four to five times lower than conventional de-icing technologies.
The project will advance the technology from TRL 5 to TRL 7 through full-scale field testing at Hällby hydropower station, producing a validated prototype, installation toolkit, and commercialization roadmap. The innovation supports Sweden’s climate and energy transition goals, improving hydropower efficiency and grid stability during winter peaks while eliminating fossil-based de-icing methods.
Linnovation AB develops sustainable, Swedish-engineered solutions that prevent ice and snow buildup in critical energy and infrastructure systems. The company’s patented heating and de-icing technologies ensure reliable operation and safety across renewable energy, industrial, and public environments. Its innovations are applied in wind and hydropower, real estate, and personal safety, where advanced thermal systems protect equipment and people from harsh Nordic conditions.
Lars Tarberg, Managing Director at Linnovation AB: "We’re thrilled that the Swedish Energy Agency has decided to support our project — this funding will allow us to further advance our hydropower heating panels and unlock exciting new business opportunities. I also want to highlight our great collaboration with GAEU during the application process. Their professionalism, experience, and insight made a real impact. I’d be delighted to work with Tomasz and his team again in the future."
Tomasz Wasik, CEO of GAEU Consulting Horizon Europe Centre of Excellence, “We are proud to have supported Linnovation in securing this significant Swedish Energy Agency grant. This funding validates a strategically vital innovation for grid stability and energy efficiency in cold climates. We look forward to seeing Linnovation successfully deliver this project and establish a new benchmark for de-icing of hydropower plants”.
